Square Enix opens doors to simultaneous release dates

Posted on March 10th, 2008 at 17:51 EDT

How many times have you looked forward to a premiere JRPG only to find out that you were going to have to wait another year for them to bring it to North America or Europe? We're guessing more times than you can count. Square Enix has evidently realized this issue and has taken notice of the growing gaming market outside of Japan that shows large interest in their releases.

SE President, Yoichi Wada, has stated that Square Enix will be making worldwide releases from this point forward. There is no confirmation if this will include Dragon Quest IX or Final Fantasy XIII, but we're hoping it will. With the continuing success of both of those franchises, it would be a great day for gamers to finally have equality in release dates. We're aware our European readers are always displeased with being given titles third in line.

According to Wada, SE is also thinking about opening studios up outside of Japan in order to make development for localization that much easier. They've also been considering allowing for over-seas developed games to be released as well.

If any news or confirmation comes out that relates this to FFXIII or DQIX, we'll keep you informed.

Great I hate knowing that a Square-Enix game is out in another country and I have to wait months to get it. Hopefully this will include Europe because they've always been getting the short end of the stick.

why? i mean why? the jap voice and such are the real visions of the creator and because the NA is english only they get games before europe, and i never complained until now. Really why do you want the japanese to wait 1 year longer so the voice over of europe and such can be made? it will always be the europians that drag down all the others playasia exist for that reason and i dont mind buying games from us either. But this is bs, there is no good in making a 08 release for japan 09 release just so tons of europian languages can be added.

If it seriously takes a company a full year just to do different language voice overs then they have severe logistical problems.

Really?  It took them...how long, to figure this out?  Give me FF7....now.

Sounds great...but is it? Doesn't this mean that all regions have to wait until the slowest country is ready for a release? If you ask me this sounds like they are making even more people wait. It sounds like a good idea, but does it really mean we will get the games earlier?

That would be great, getting the game when released in all the areas would make gamers around the world happier. Espcially the EU, they always get shafted with the release dates.

Even though I'm not really into games developed by Square Enix ( mostly RPG's), it's good that they are finally considering Worldwide releases for it's games. I can't believe it took Square Enix this long to realize how much fans of it's games would appreciate a Worldwide release.

The U.S. is the biggest gaming market of all, and it would just make common sense to have a game be released in the U.S. as well as Japan at the same time if SquareEnix weren't going to release it in Europe at the same time also.

A lot of people are thinking that FFXIII will be a 2009 game in the U.S. even though it is set to be released late 2008. But luckily for PS3 owners, we could import FFXIII from Japan and play it on our PS3's, so it really wouldn't be a big deal even if FFXIII got pushed to early 2009 in the U.S., but the really die hard FF fans will be the ones that import the game from Japan most likely.

When it comes to games being released, usually it's Europe that gets a game much later, it's good that more and more game companies are considering worldwide releases.

Finally Square! fter waiting 6months for FF12 it's time to do like most other major game developpers and have a worldwide release. i hope this will be effective when FF13 comes out.
