Electronic Arts has confirmed that it will be releasing a patch for the PlayStation 3 version of The Orange Box some time next month.
The news came to light in an EA Customer Support email, in which the company stated it is currently developing a patch for the game, which is due to be released in March after testing has been completed. Details on what issues will be resolved have yet to be announced.
The response itself reads:
“Our engineers have finally provided details regarding the issue you are experiencing. Currently, this is a known issue and our engineering team are creating a patch, which should resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the patch has yet to be tested and will be released sometime in March. Other issues will be addressed but unfortunately we do not have a list at this time.”
The Orange Box is a compilation release from Valve Software, containing Half Life 2, Half Life 2: Episode One, Half Life 2: Episode Two, Portal and Team Fortress 2. Unlike its Xbox 360 and PC counterpart, the PS3 version was handled by EA London.

The cake is a lie!!!!!
EA only know how to put incomplete games out to the consumer.
jlch - Don't look at EA. Look at Valve. We got the game because of EA and if it wasn't for them....we wouldn't have gotten it. Ofcourse, if they are going to try to bring something over they should do a good job but still.....it is Valve's product....they handed it over to EA (even if EA called them to port it for them) so they should be the ones responsible for how the product came out since they couldn't care to begin with I don't see how it is EA's fault.
My friend wanted to buy Orange Box, I just told him not to. Valve doesn't deserve the money.
The Orange Box really isn't that bad on the PS3. Yes I know, the other versions are superior, but that doesn't make the PS3 port extremely bad. I bought it more or less on day 1 because they are GREAT GAMES, even on the PS3 version. Most people tend to forget how good these games really are.
I purchased the orange box purely for the experience of portal, it was worth the money for that game alone, add in all the other games and you have got yourself a a very worthwhile purchase. Cake would have been nice tho
@taurus 82
theres a little bit of a frame rate problem within certgain areas of teh game but i havnt experienced anything that is unplaybale. I would defienately recommeend it if u have never played any of the games (even if thst just episodes 1 or 2) and even more if there a patch comin out. (sorry for typin/spellin in a hurry)
wats the update include?
I got OB as I've always wanted to play it ever since HL2 came out on PC. It is the same game and looks the same with just slight slow frame-rates here and there. The real problem is the loading times and I wish for the patch to fix this.
No one has said what the problems were that they are patching. I believe the original poster was complaining about LAG in the Online mode, If they fixed the FRAMES in the main games I would buy it..
If it fixes the hardcore framerate drop and massive loading, I'm going to buy this game.
the orange box is sick no one should talk bad about it.
Too late. Traded it already. Suck it, Valve.
who ever disses half life 2 or the orange box should die... wtf.... its only one of the most amazing/realistic games ever made... don't let bias get to ur heads
if they fix the terrible loading times and the framerate issues to bring the ps3 version to the same quality as (or better than) the 360 version, i will be glad to buy this game.
Don't care Valve sucks!!! I don't buy games made by them.
I bought this game in November, i played Portal, checked out TF2, and have played some of Half Life 2. But for some reason im not into it, i guess games like Uncharted and Rockband are gaining more of my interest. But now ill wait for the update before i go ahead and beat all the Half Life's.
I own this and whilst yes there are dips in framerate is by no means as awful as it was intitally reported. Having said that any patch that does eradicate the dips that are there will be much appreciated.
This game(s) sucks and so does Valve and Gaaaaaayyyyyy newell.
@ D3v1l: No VALVe here. EA agreed to do the game for them. Thank EA London for the turd.

I'll pick it up, say late 2009? Whenever I have spare money. Portal is the only thing I want anyway.
