Three brilliant Resistance 2 videos emerge

Posted on June 16th, 2008 at 13:28 EDT

If you thought Resistance 2 looked merely "alright" after Friday's explosive debut footage, think again. Or rather, watch these three incredible videos which should speak for themselves. The game's multiplayer, which looks to be even more addicting than in the first iteration, is featured in the first video, while the latter two feature footage from Hale's single-player adventure. Enjoy.

Does this bring anything to the genre, or will it be a Resistance 1.5? =

Maybe I'm spoiled by MGS4 now, but none of those videos were "brilliant".  Honestly, I know it's work in progress like the videos say, but there was no intensity at all.  The graphics were poor and the voice acting was filler material.  When Insomniac's ready to show me some gameplay from a more finished state of the game, let me know.

Word to Eric Blattberg: Don't try to spice up headlines with words like "brilliant" when clearly, they are not.

The only thing I liked about these videos is the animations on the alien guys when they get shot. Killzone 2 and MGS 4 look far better.

@swanky2167

I thought they were brilliant. The gameplay, at least. The multiplayer, as I said in the article, looks every bit as addictive as it was in the first Resistance. The Grims rushing at Hale throughout the entirety of the second video was awesome from a gameplay perspective (in addition to the amount of enemies on screen). The third video was the least "brilliant" in my opinion, though it was still solid. I never said that the graphics were brilliant. Regarding the development process, they get the gameplay down first THEN pretty up the graphics. Look at the amount Resistance: Fall of Man improved from May-June 2006 to the launch of the PS3 that November. I expect Resistance 2 to do the same.

No matter how much improvement this game makes, if any,  im getting it. Why? Because Resistance is Resistance and it has a good storyline and solid gameplay with good online play.

 @ edward_moffet, i agree with you completely! anyway how can you get a particular idea of the graphics when its on a small low quality stream, regardless of it still being 5 months away! i predict that in about 2 months time we'll see the finalised quality resistance 2 has to offer, the things is i think resistance 1 looked brilliant graphics wise in places but failed with some dodgy textures and lots of bland enviroments (not enough colour) im just worried the sequal may follow in its predessors path! but 60 player online and a storyline to boot (something which most fps recently lack!!!) this is gonna fookin rock!

This game is looking REALLY good, and the graphics are much improved over the 1st. As long as insomniac delivers on the gameplay and story (which i know they will) this game will be a huge sucess. *sigh* i guess ill be going to gamestop this week to reserve and pay for my copy now... i need more funds heh.

Don't know how swanky was "spoiled" by MGS4 I bought that game and took it back the same day, same gay game as it always was, never been a fan of the, I can't shoot and kill everyone and everything because I'm not badass enough genre of games. I am so glad that I already have this game preordered because it loox incredible.

Looks absolutely amazing. Can't wait. I'm looking forward to that 300 foot tall monster like mad.

Really, it should be known that Insomniac develops the maps, everything, THEN adds detail and loads on the graphics.

It should also be known that this is running on the Ratchet and Clank Future engine. Which means it can only look BETTER than R&CF. We'll literally be seeing what we saw in the teaser at all times during R2.

Insomniac's providing so much with this release taking the two campaigns and 60 player online into consideration, this should be on the very top of your 'to buy' list.

That's interesting - the bullseye is back (woo!), and it has a limit on tags in the multiplayer game. It looks like it's set at six. There is a moment 2/3 through the video where the bullseye tag is fired, taking a counter from 6 to 5. Apologies if this is old news, but maybe that'll help to stop the endless complaints about tags. The worst thing about Resistance online was the disgusting people who spent their time spawn killing, then complained if they got tagged.

Well, over the previous video I saw, the intensity looks better so the game looks like it might be more fun. I'm still not seeing the big jump in graphics I've been expecting yet, but it already does look a little better. They're doing the water pretty well. It's refractive rather than just transparent like GTAIV. Still, I hope they make some further improvements before they start talking about release dates. Then again, these are the same guys that were bragging about how the Cell allowed them to process 32 whole sapper balls at one time. (OMGZ FORREALS????!!!!!111!!1)

I think Resistance 2 is shaping up nicely. I like thenew design of the Bullseye especially. In the last video, do u think that big godzilla thing will be a boss?

@BlueRevolvuR

Yes, I do believe that Godzilla like thing will be a boss. Good ol' Ted stated that there will be a boss up to 300 feet tall.

I see no reason why they would just throw that monster in there without having you fight it eventually.

I think its wether you want all that stuff happening on screen making the gameplay intense or you want a solid 1-2 and a few more things on screen with awesome graphics?? I think it sort of evens out. But, if you look at the way the engine has changed from Resistance 1, is this really a modified warhawk engine to compensate for the amount of people the engine needs to handle?? The guys running and some animation can look like warhawk at times or maybe it is just me. Insomniac is really doing a great job and I will preorder Resistance 2 this weekend, I am that happy with there work.

 Wow.  Tough crowd!  I think the graphics look GREAT.  They don't have that color bled look that while MGS4 has and looks great, seems to make things look rather pale and bled out.  Nice brilliant colors, great detail...and it is still a good ways from release.  I'm sure that Resistance will look amazing.  I think it already does.

There's nothing wrong with there being a BUNCH of games that look great and have very different art and animation styles.  That's what this is, IMO.  This looks just as sharp and great to me as other games we're seeing, it's just a different style of art and animation.  I'm betting that Insomniac does us all VERY proud!

@jphuff

You haven't actually played MGS4 for yourself, have you? The game stretches across many different places and evironments.

One of the places it is at is in the woods in South America. If you think that was "color bled" then you haven't played very many games. That is one of the most colorful, best looking things I've ever seen.

Just for the record book,  MGS4 has the best graphics of any game out there, besides Crysis if even that.

reading the 1st 3 posts im actually thinking this game looks amazing, by the looks of the online play itll blow resistance 1 away, the online for that kinda sucked, but i think ill be leaving cod4 froever, pretty much already abandoned by me, anyways back to mgs4

This is a let down.  Expecially since in teh past Insomniac have said that all future PS3 games of thiers is going to run at 60fps.  This is at 30fps.  IT does not look that impressive, the colour is still bland and brown and it looks still, alot like R1.  If insomniac can get thsi runnig at 60 like they said in the first place, give it more colour, more intense fighting, non linear levels (i hate linear FPS games).  Then they MIGHT have my money.  If not, i'll keep playing MGS4 online.

Not really....  Metal Gear Solid 4 stretches across 5 enviorments and the first 2 are the only ones who are really fun to play. MGS4 looks good, but not crysis good.

cant wait to play this however it dosent really look as good as mgs4 did however there 2 totally different games so its really pointless comparing them. but in the graphics department this kinda looks like a resistance 1.5.

@hyperslug

We definitely just have conflicting opinions, then, as stating MGS4 is only fun over the first two environments is just that - your opinion. MGS4 is the most beautiful game I've ever played. I believe that MGS4's art style pushes it over the edge for me. I would rather play something that looks like MGS4 than something that looks like Crysis. MGS4's graphics are definitely close enough to Crysis that it just comes down to art style, and for me, MGS4 takes the cake.

@hemin, that was actually the only part i did't like. I mean weaponless monsters rushing at you and you have to kill them all feel more like meaningless killing with absolutely no strategy involved besides shooting around without aiming much. I really dont like the monsters or enemies that rush at you in huge numbers when its fps, and thats what i hates about r:fom, the small freaks that you have to shoot. You might say they add up to the story as every fallen human cant be equiped with weapon and that the city really does live on in big numbers. IMO i dont like enemies that come in big numbers and all you need is to shoot around.

 The more info I read and see on R2, the more it makes me want to play it. I think it's looking great and c'mon, this is only going to get better closer to release and it's bound to be a whole load of fun. And Yes we have been spolit with MGS4, don't let that ruin all other games for yourselves. I guess every single game is going to be compared to that from now on...?

well it looks like team work will play a bigger part in the single player, and multiplayer i reckoned looked awesome! Graphics do look like they could do with a facelift, but the graphis on the guns look awesome. now they just need to employ that to the environment. and i'm gutted they didnt get Mr. T to do the voice of hale. now that would have been truly spectacular
