(continued from previous page) ...to Nariko, Heavenly Sword's protagonist, who was orphaned when her entire clan was murdered. Being the lone survivor of such a prominent clan while witnessing her mother being murdered by Flying Fox has left Kai in a fragile state of mind. While she is always attached to Nariko, she’ll go out of her way in order to make sure she is safe at all times.
The reason why Kai is such a breath of fresh air is simply presented through the way she carries herself. Armed with a crossbow and a twisted personality, Kai loves playing games that involve shooting oncoming enemies from hundreds of yards away. It doesn’t surprise us to watch her dance over slain bodies that still have her arrows sticking out of them. This unique style of personality is usually reserved for a bad guy with a demented frame of mind, but Kai finds herself on the opposite side of the spectrum as the lovable, quirky outcast of Heavenly Sword that we have grown to love.
Ratchet & Clank: This duo counts as one entity and was created by Insomniac Games in 2002, which was also when it became a Sony resident. With Insomniac and Sony signing into an exclusive agreement, it solidified this furry Lombax and trusty tin-can sidekick as Sony exclusive for years to come.
Ratchet was originally voiced by Mikey Kelley, a prominent voice-over specialist, but wasn’t given the exclusive role of Ratchet and was replaced after the first title in the series by James Taylor. Taylor is no stranger to the role as he has done several high-profile jobs in the gaming industry. You may know him as Tidus from FFX/X-2, Captain Jack Sparrow from Kingdom Hearts II, and Tales of Symphonia’s Lord Yggdrasill. Clank is voiced by an illustrious voice-actor named David Kaye. You’ve already read about him a bit further up.
As you know, Ratchet is always trying to invent something new, usually getting him and Clank into the worst situations. Of course, this usually results in him saving the world. With his trusty robot friend Clank always having to bail him out with wisdom and ideas, it comes as no shock that these two together form one kickass team.
With recently released Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, we finally had the opportunity to view this dynamic duo in beautiful high-definition. Tools of Destruction game is the sixth installment in the series and we’re sure it won’t be the last.
Nathan Drake: Created by Naughty Dog for their new title Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, this dark-haired, sarcastic, ladies man came out of left field and finally gave Americans their own male version of the British sensation, Lara Croft.
Nathan Drake is voiced by Nolan North, an American born voice-actor who is famous for his roles as Vossler from FFXII, Hades from God of War, Desmond Miles from Assassin’s Creed, and upcoming talent work in Metal Gear Solid 4, where he will play the voice of a slew of characters.
Drake is constantly obsessed with finding out everything he can about Sir Francis Drake, his self-professed ancestor. His main goal, finding Francis’ rumored fortune, is always on the front of his mind and he’s willing to jump through any hoops provided to find it. Though Drake is always spitting out witty dialogue with his counterparts Elena Fisher and Victor Sullivan, you’ll often find him to be resourceful, agile, and definitely capable of taking down the bad guys, no matter how many are sent his way.
With fans of Nathan Drake definitely awaiting the much anticipated Uncharted sequel which has no name or release date, he’s the obvious choice for PlayStation 3’s number one character of this generation thus far.
These five characters have helped shape PlayStation exclusivity up to this point. Had the list been made a year from now, you’d likely see Solid Snake and a few others being considered; unfortunately, those titles have yet to release. These are the characters who have gotten the console to where it is today. Feel free to leave comments of either agreement ... (continued on next page)

LOL you have to click on Page 3 for "...us your detailed top five characters."
I approve of this list. Lol
Nariko where is? from PS3 exclusives Drake is my favourite but Old Snake is coming xP
Solid Snake,Lara Croft, tekken characters, final fantasy. if MGS left the playstation the world would be shocked
I'm glad they put Nathan Drake at number 1, guess I will have to agree mostly. It would have been nice to see Nariko instead of Kai. But, I understand why hey did that.
Nariko should be on Nathan Hale's place. I'll be frank, Nathal Hale is a lot worse as a character than Nariko. He lacks personality and really, he shouldn't be on ANY "best characters" list as far as I'm conserned. He's not a well written character, although he's not the worst character ever either. Just that... there's nothing special about him that would make him better than Nariko.
psn id: gingo.... agree with this list but i might have substituted king bohan for Ellen from Folklore as i think she was a strong character in an extremely strong story
The PlayStation consoles have had a wide variety of characters that were once their exclusives. If Microsoft wasn't buying them off, and then having them in bad games there would be a long list. The PS3 will probably be like the other two and have a wide variety so I say Ratchet and Clank for E games, Drake for T games, and Hale for M games. Unlike the 360 that depends on M games, and the Wii with E games, that are oddly getting T ratings now, the playstation hosts many great games of all genres and ratings.
Nice list there, it given me a reason to buy unchanted: Drakes Fourtune game as i played the demo and loved it but was thinkin about wether to buy it or not. Now im going too. All time hero gotta be abe!!
Nariko should have been there.
The third page is retarded :D
But yeah. Drake's first, Ratchet and Clank second, Hale third, Nariko fourth and an Imperial Guard from Oblivion is fifth :D
Great list but where the f*** is Nariko????
what about spyro and solid snake
I really like the list of new characters on the PS3 console (except for Rachet and Clank because they were on the PS2). Sony has always introduced a slew of new video game characters with each console generation and when you think of Sony, you can't just think of one single game character or just one game because there are so many.
Nathan Drake is my favorite new character for the PS3 by far. Nathan Drake is just a cool average guy and I really liked his personality in Uncharted.
Nariko is my second favorite and Nathan Hale is probably my third favorite. Nathan Hale didn't really have any personality in Resistance and I don't remember him talking at all. I hope that Insomniac adds more to his personality in Resistance 2.
Nathan owns! He's sooo cool! :P
well, i just thought that nariko should be here, to. for me it's the ultimate character since Lara Croft. I got to admit, i have this thing for redheads:) GO, NARIKO!!
Notes:
Third Page is useless.
Drake needs to be higher
Ratchet & Clank cheated! They're PS2 buddies.
Can't wait to see what they do with Kai for HS2.
SPOILER ALERT: Resistance: Fall of Man ending detailed above.
-Nice list PSU.
I agree, Nintendo hasnt really gotten any new characters for a while now. But the Playstation Brand is gettin new appealing characters every year. Nathan Drake is an excellent new character, the Lara Croft (except he's male), who manages to joke even in the worst situations. Comedian.
You sir are a liar. You promised me carrots and I see none! And no Nero? Aww, come on...
pft nathen drake is not original just liikeable look at the lead role in any action movie and you will see the same charecter brave but sissy at times a comedian but serious whent he time comes its been done before but still a very well put to getehr charecter
the problem with playstation at the moment is they are tryign so hard to get new charecters all the time they are forgetting to carry them on charecters like crash bandicoot and spyro made playstaion to begin with then they made a few latter oens like rahcet and clank and jack and dexster then they stopped there they carried with jack and dexter and rachet and clank for too long by now we sould have had another at least 2 big charecters and be moving onto the the 4th set now instead we are jsut getting a bunch of semi proment charecters contratly and carrying on the old ones the key to this is getting icons for time periods nintendo has utterly failed at that by having 1 charecter set for ever but they keep it going a little by adding a nother charecter here and there over time. when playstation had prominent charecter sets for the time they were beating the opposition but now we have fallen into the trap of basicly no icons except washed out rachet and clank and jack and dextar nathen hale for instance is not a good icon sure he can be one of the semmi promenant charecters for the console but hes not somthign that some one sees as almsot a logo and says HEY PLAYSTATION . an icon needs to be instantly recognizeable unique often a simple charecter which the user can make their own opionon and apply almsot your own personality too (the bit of personality spyro had was fairly simlliar to nateh drakes but it dosent make him an icon since this only relly works if its applyed to a non human charecter or a unrealisic human charecter) about spyro and crash were perfect now we just need new ones.
2 characters from HS... Hmmmmm...
