Killzone 2 only using 60% of SPU's overall power?
New Killzone 2 footage: Ambush, Boss Fight, and moreSony’s Jack Tretton has said that the launch of the PlayStation 3 has been one of the toughest events in his career thus far, describing its first year on the market as a “baptism under fire.”
“There was a lot of concern about the technology promise of the PS3 as well as the price point. Consumers questioned whether Sony would be able to deliver on that promise. The first year was certainly a baptism under fire,” said Tretton, President of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA).
“Previously, I managed just a portion of the business,” he continued.
“Now, I’m responsible for all of it, so I feel a tremendous amount of responsibility for viritually everything the company does. I would like to show long-term growth and success at the most senior levels.”

psn id: gingo... it was definetely a bad start for the ps3 with the very high price point but i think they have weathered the storm and are looking good to leap forward with the line up in 2008
Yes, the PS3's launch was tough, and only the really dedicated Playstation fans bought the PS3 when it was $500 and $600 dollars at launch (Including me).
I think that people have still got this thing in their minds that a Video Game console is only for games, but the Playstation 3 is a Multimedia powerhouse and is more than just a gaming console.
At the time of the PS3's launch, $500/$600 dollars for the PS3 console was a bargain to me, however, I think that Sony has learned that people are only willing to pay so much for a game console, however, it only makes sense that as new game consoles come out that the prices of the console will only continue to go up.
The PS3 has already been throught the storm and the light at the end of the tunnel is almost here. 2008 is going to be a Big year for the PS3 and 2009 looks just as promising with God of War 3, Wardevil, Gran Turismo 5, Twisted Metal, L.A. Noire, and more. When it comes to upcoming exclusives for the PS3 for 2008 and 2009, the Xbox 360 doesn't stand a chance. Once the PS3 drops to $299 or at least gets another price drop possibly this fall or Christmas, the Xbox 360 is OVER. Microsoft Game Studios just can't keep up with Sony's game studios and that's a fact because when you look at upcoming 360 game titles that are actually published by Microsoft, they are very scarce when compared to upcoming PS3 games.
This is very true and i agree with the points above, the ps3 has had its share of criticism/bad press and should now start to pick up especially with much better exclusive titles coming out (with exception maybe fable 2 loved the first one). However in light of what kojima has said it does sort of dent the confidience i once had in the mighty machine. just hope he is wrong/overstating his claims.
After using the PS3 for a year now along side the xbox360 i definitley can say that the PS3 is worth every penny. This system might now have had Halo or GOW 1 & 2, but it showed that it is capable of doing the same graphics or even more. RFOM, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, UTIII, GT5pro, and there is just more to come. It really is the ultimate computer entertainment system because it takes what entertainment value PCs have and mainly implement it into the console. The blu-ray/dvd/cd player is incredible especially upscaling. The games are looking really good.
firstly!!!! waht has been going on with this website over the last week?????????
Secondly PS3 has had a rough ride but thing are certainly look better now and it seems the flack is turning to MS with its 38% default rate in the UK.
@ Aclay- Sony will have a tough time changing peoples mind about the PS3 being more then a game console. Due to the massive success of PS1 and PS2 the Playstation name has become synonymous with gaming and that is going to be tough to change for the non gamers.
@Zippie- Kojima may be brilliant but i personally think he is a fool to think that hes maxed out the PS3. I dont care how smart you are or how great your games are, to think that youve maxed out a brand new system on your first try is laughable. In the years to come there will be MANY new techniques to more efficiently use the power of the console thereby freeing up more capacity to make games even better.
With Fireware coming to the ps3 every few mouths the system just gets better and better. If this guy is scared to run the job he has, let me do it. I'll make sure we stay on top. We hold the power in our hands.

Bad price? It cost them $800 to make the each of the first batch! The Wii for launch were around $210 to make and sold for $250!
Micrsoft fanboys said that they always had the superior system, but they never tell you about how many xbox 360 consoles they buy because of the red ring burn out due to playing long periods of time. While PLAYSTATION 3 fans don't have to go through this type of ordeal because Sony has the more reliable system and game developers that turned their back at first realized that they made a mistake.
I remember the run up to the PS3's launch. All the so called experts saying how the PS3 would bring Sony down. I was LMAO at them all. Sony is a HUGE company in Japan and it is well respected for its superior products around the world. They always seem to push the barriers, and although sometimes they get it wrong i.e MiniDisks (I thought they were great) they more often get it right and as a company they are there for one reason: to make a profit. They are not going to release a product that they know is going to break them. It was costed out and they knew in advance exactly what would happen. The PS3 still is a cutting edge piece of equipment and because its made by Sony its also well made. Glad I choose a good Japanese manufacturer. Its like cars, Japan (arguably) produce the best most reliable cars, while the US produce cheap cars that dont handle well (IMHO). Sorry if I have offended any Americans on here, I do admit that some American cars look very nice though, lol.
