Trion bringing fantasy-themed MMORPG to PS3

Posted on June 2nd, 2008 at 12:26 EDT

Trion World Network has confirmed that it will be bringing its debut title – a fantasy-themed Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game(MMORPG) – to the PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.

The company revealed that it has just become a fully licensed publisher for the PS3 in order to release the game on the Sony platform, and confirmed that it will be publishing the game in North America and Europe, with a distributor for Asian territories yet to be announced.

Trion’s Co-Founder, President and Chief Creative Officer, Van Caneghem, commented: "This game is designed on the philosophy of putting players at the centre of the game world.”

"By building an extensive event system and a server architecture that allows for dynamic change, we are creating completely new opportunities for creative game design. The game will live and change along with the players, evolving in response to their actions and the creativity of our design team."

CEO Lars Butler said of the PS3 publishing rights agreement: “The PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system is the perfect platform to carry out our vision that the future of games and entertainment lies in the connected era, and this agreement provides Trion with a major entertainment channel to deliver ground-breaking and exciting content to the mass market in North America."

In 2007 the company raised approximately USD 30 million in funding and announced the hiring of Sony Online Entertainment’s Nicholas Beliaeff to oversee its new offices in San Diego.

Awesome.  If it's fantasy themed, then I'll buy it for sure.  I'm so freaking sick of all these sci-fi, tech type rpg's or, even worse, shooter RPG's.  Fantasy is what it's all about.

Fantasy themed MMO's are the best kind. I like the midieval settings best, not so much modern influence.

Sounds great! I was beginning to wonder where all the MMORPGs are? I mean both Xbox Live and Playstation Network are like made for these kind of games (and Im not even a genuine MMO fan). I like the idea!

Yet another MMORPG.  Ten bucks says it's going to be as good as the last one.  To be honest here, I have this feeling that people will play it for ten seconds and then say " This game sucks; WoW is better." Maybe i'm wrong but I hope I am.

Good PlayStation 3 needs more RPG's on the system although I wish there was more that were exclusive.

corss console ???

IF YOU DONT WANT PEOPLE TO SAY WOW IS BETTER DONT MAKE A WOW CLONE USE INSPIRATION FORM TIBA WHERE ERVYTHING IS TANGILBLE FROM PLAYER TO CURRECNY TO HOUSES THEY ALL ACTULY EXIST IN TEH GAME WORLD AND ARE NOT JSUT ANOTHER NUMBER ON A SERVER. GOLD ACTUALY WIEGES SOMTHING AND CAN BE THROWN ON THE GROUND ANY ONE CAN ATTACK ANY ONE ANY TIME ANY WHERE ACEPT IN TINY SAFE ZONES INCLUDING ITEM STORGAE AREAS AND SPAWNING POINTS. if you used tibia as an example and worked on it to make it better and more like pay to play mmos with out losing its ruff user contontrolled social stability in which the perssure of not being targeted and your own safty is what stops you from desotrying every one not a lil message that says "you may not attack this player" and kept the real space compedative housing market you might actualy make a decent game.
