UT3 PS3 to feature keyboard and mouse support

Posted on August 4th, 2007 at 15:13 EDT

Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games, has confirmed that it will be including keyboard and mouse support for the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3.

Rein posted the confirmation on the official Epic Games forums after speaking to colleague Steve Polge. He appreciated the concerns of some fans that keyboard and mouse support could create unbalanced online games by reassuring us that an effective system would be in place to ensure fairness.

"I checked with Steve Polge and he said that YES we are supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3. He is confident we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not."

Unreal Tournament 3 is being released exclusively on PS3 and PC this year, with an Xbox 360 version coming out early next year.

Rein finished is post by saying:

"I think you guys are going to love UT3! More details to come later."

We'll keep you up to date.

This is actually very good! Most of the people who i know who use Mouse/keyboard happen to be pc gamers... they are not the guys who us it because they want to out play other people.

for those that say its an unfair adantage for those that use keyboard/mouse, to you i say that's all BS! BS! BS! BS! now i consider myself close to average with controller with fps's but damn when i say there are ppl who plays the controller like its a freakin' keyboard/mouse. which means it's gonna be a long night on resistance. so i welcome the support for keyboard/mouse for people like me that always aim down when moving around or can't seem to get that headshot on the run (sigh). now if you excuse me think i'll go and play more resistance and practice on my aiming (pfft! that probally what most is gonna say in replies anyway. lucky you you probally not on a 20 game losing streak lol.)

they have there respective advantage.

Controlers can strafe and close qaurter battle better.....

Well I for one am very excited to hear Epic confirm that keyboard and mouse will be supported for UT3. They said it a couple of times a while ago but time passes and you wonder if they have changed their minds cause you don't hear anything about it. I think FPS games expecially should support keyboard and mouse in this day and age when every reviewer I've heard of thinks it works best for FPS games. All the complaints about unfairness of having to purchase a keyboard and mouse or unfairness of losing because you are using a sixaxis controller is not a good argument as a usb keyboard and mouse and be picked up for super cheap these days. I got a wireless keyboard and mouse on sale and have it hooked up to the PS3 and its a really nice set that cost me very little. I really hope Epic starts something big :)

The part about trying to balance the matches was all I needed to read. Very nice :D

I think the Six axis would have the advantage. I cant stand keyboard and mouse play. I think it could be fair if someone that is good with the controllers and some one that is good with the KB/MS have a match.

Oh, and they didnt mention keyboard and mouse support for the 360. looks like the 360 is losing out on features

This is old news they said it would support both so we would be able to desided which controller setup is better

Mouse/Keyboard support should be present in ALL PS3 games.  With the possibility to choose mixed or joypad only online games there should be almost no balance problems.

First of all I don't think keyboard and mouse has to be better than controller. KB/MS is just what most of us are used to. But after long nights with Resistance you get used to controller instead and get better at it. I don't think that EVERYONE is better with mouse and I am pretty damn sure that they are equally good. It's more up to the guy behind the controlls than the controlls themselves.

Anyway, really cool that PS3 will get this feature and not 360 since it does not support mouse. :) Sweet! PS3 FTW!
