Mark Rein, Vice President of Epic Games has noted that the visuals in the PlayStation 3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 are pushing the bar higher than that of the company’s previous efforts with the Xbox 360 and PC title, Gears of War.
"People are going to be pleasantly surprised”, said Rein. “It's a really high end experience that pushes the graphics bar up even higher than Gears of War. There's more polygons, there's more stuff going on, there's more explosions and there's more things happening, so we're just really pleased with the way the game runs on the PS3.”
He added:"You know, bringing a game to any new piece of hardware is difficult. That's just the nature of making games. Making games is hard. It's a hard business. I don't think the PS3 was any more of a challenge than any other new piece of hardware that we've used. Remember, we've been making PC games for years and the PC isn't one platform, it's hundreds of platforms. There's no two PCs that are completely identical in many cases. That's just the challenge of making games."
Rein also stated that there is "something special" about playing UT3 on the PS3 and "it feels just right to be playing it with a controller".
"The goal in taking the game to PS3 is to make the best PS3 game we can possibly make", he said.
"And to do that we had to take into account that most people are playing with the controller. There are certainly differences in some of the parameters of the PS3 version. Maybe the weapon speed is a little different, the turning speed is different, but we have to accommodate and make it a great game.”
“Our goal is to make UT3 the best possible game it could be on every platform it's on. I think we've done a really good job of making it feel just right on the console and that's exciting to us."
The PC version will be released this month and the Xbox 360 version will be released next year. There is no official release date set for the PlayStation 3, but Epic Games are pushing for a late 2007 release.

ps3 is starting to get alot great compliments from many developers and other big people in the gaming industry im glad that they're finally giving ps3 the props it deserves

Saying that UT2007 will have better graphics than GoW meansthe ps3 is infact one h*ll of a machine.Developers who don't yet master the console to this level should try and meet Epic for some lectures and then buy the licence to use the unreal engine,which is the magic behind these stunning graphics.Good work Epic and keep the pace up.

Thats more of a hint that if Gears of war was made for the PS3, it would be superior to the PC and xbox version...lol (tough pill for MS fangirls to swallow)...anyways, I might opt for this rather than Haze.....time will tell it all. Good news!
EPIC GAME DEVELOPERS HAVE DISCOVER THE TRUE POWER THAT THE PS3 CAN BRING TO A VIDEO GAME.so that means that the ps3 is faster and more eficient,more powerfull,more beautifull grafics,more polygons,more space in a single dics and much much more capacity than the 3 rigs 360.ha ha ha ha ha.

Well you can think of UT3 as a more polished Gears of War. its expected, given the time alloted.
Really Really big words....that pretty null all the lazy *** devs complaints...and also its awesom that just a year in ps3 have a game that looks better than the 2 years late gears. If thats not proof of the ps3 power ( and uncharted, R&C and other ) I dont know what is.
I sure hope it will look better than Gears, because it will come out over a year after Gears was released. He can say this because Gears 2 will look better than UT3. So it's all relative to time.
UT3 is a big game release but it has some very good competitors. Times are great for gamers right now.
I have a nice PC set up for Crysis, UT3, COD 4, World in Conflict, QuakeWars, Assasins Creed, Trackmania United, Gears of War, The Witcher, FEAR expansion #2, Empire Earth 3, H.ellgate London (Diablo 3), & Orangebox and I expect these games will keep me seriously busy for a very long time.
I also want to find time to play Silent Hunter 4, Supreme Commander, and DiRT. We are getting absolutely swamped with excellent block buster games at the moment (Bioshock which I have just finished is amazing) and Farcry 2 is on the horizon along with Insecticide, Spore, Empires Total War, the STALKER expansion and the very interesting Left 4 Dead etc etc.... The challenge is to figure out which game to play first. Tough call...
Times are good - its the Renaissance period for gamers right now – enjoy it!

Hey Mark why dont you make gears 2 on ps3 also if you like it so much.
Im convinced that Sony has had direct sessions and meetings with developers on how to maximize the PS3's power. I cant think of any other reason as to why so many developers are now changing the tunes that they spoke just months ago, basically saying the worst stuff possible about the console. COD4 went from a challenge to "very simple" in the matter of 4 months. Now, Im happy to see that UT and its developers are saying the same. TONS of great looking and playing games are right at our dorrsteps guys. Im ready to see the PS3 finally start to dominate.
epic wanted to release GoW one on the ps3 but STUPID MICRSOFT DIDNT LET THEM. any way gow is dodgye on the xbox im like WTF THESE GRAHPICS ARE SHIIT AS then after about 2 minutes the grahpics on his back finaly loaded and i went oh okay they are good BUT WHY MAKE GRAHPICS THAT GOOD I FYOUR SHIITTY CONSOLE CANT HANDLE THEM
He clearly states that PS3 like any new hardware is difficult to develop for but thats the nature of makin games. I say give it a couple of years than devs will be able to use the ultimate processing power of the cell processor. The PS3 is pratically futureproof.
Graphics... Graphics are nice but the story and gameply must be better to be better.
I hope they are not all talk. This will be a huge game with a huge online following if they don't screw it up.
honestly i dont think that the PS3's power hasn't been fully tapped at all by epic. I also dont think it's because the game is being ported from the PS3 that it's better than xbox's own Gears of War. What i believe is that through time Epic is just getting better at developing their games and getting better at overcoming difficult hardware. He said so himself in this article.
