Irem making Spelunker for PS3, Disaster Report for PSPEpic make 'Unreal' statement about the future, journalist on run after bad pun enrages readers and English teachers alike.
CEO and Overlord Tim Sweeney of Epic Games, the not-so-modestly named purveyors of Tournaments and Engines, has stated that the next iteration of their aforementioned Unreal Engine (version 4 for those keeping count), will 'exclusively target the next console generation'.
This means that said Engine will be optimised for use with the next PlayStation (which we're willing to hazard a guess will be called the PlayStation 4), Xbox, and Nintendo console, but according to Mr Sweeney, only 'if Nintendo ships a machine with similar hardware specs'.
For a long time, the Unreal Engine has gone hand in hand with PCs, and is famous for getting superb graphics out of hardware of the day, but apparently Mr Sweeney feels that the Unreal 3 engine will be good enough to hold out until the Unreal 4 engine is eventual ported to the PC.
However, shunning their well established PC fan base might cause large repercussions for Epic, so it may not be the last we hear on the matter.
Stay tuned.

Will this mean the end of shoddy unreal engine ports, i doubt it but in the future the only excuse will be laziness.
damn i wonder wht unreal engine 4 will b like on the PlayStation 4 :D:D:D:P:P:P
That's too bad. I understand piracy is getting out of control, but I thought it was more about DVDS and CDs more than video games. I mean games have keys and codes that are unique to each copy. well what do i know
This was a horribly-written article Robert. I could barely read this
they'll have to release another xbox, it's fast becoming outdated, thing is i'm not willing to keep buying a console every 6 months like microsoft want you to. i've got my ps3 and i'm not buying another console for at least 4 years. so hope the ps4 is held back a bit
So in other words, no, UE4 will not be targeting consoles. Nintendo is no longer playing the horsepower game guys...
Who can blame them! A LOT of the people playing UT on the PC have it thanks to bittorent and other such piracy methods which really doesn't get Epic anywhere. Why not support consoles where the piracy isn't as rampant.

What he means is, they'll make it for the next Nintendo console if it will be powerful enough to support it, not that it's development hinges on it
Wow imagine thye graphics ( and the PLAYSTATION 4 thing doesn't flow, i think sony are going to change it )
psn id:gingo.... i really wish they would make a Unreal Engine 3.5 and make it easier to use on ps3 cos thats the negine that most devleopers complain about when they struggle to make a ps3 game
Ha, I like the way that the Unreal Engines are numbered with the PS system of that time
