With so many great role playing games coming out within the next year, we thought we might compare two of the most anticipated titles on PlayStation 3: White Knight Story and The Last Remnant (assuming Final Fantasy XIII isn't due out within the next year).
While details are still scarce, we can compare the visual styles and graphics of each title. The following images are not final product screenshots so keep in mind that things may change over the coming months.

Both games look great! I think I will definately be buying both of them. So many good games coming out soon :)
White Knight Story looks way better..those screens don't do justice
@Dave: Yea, those screen shots are pretty poor quality. I have seen better for both of them. But WKS still has a long way to go. In the trailer I seen of the battles, the main character attacked the enemy and it died floating in mid-air, and then sort of...appeared on the floor afterwards. I'm sure after it is finished though, it will be great. The Last Remnant will probably outsell WKS though, seeing that it is on both 360 and PS3.
draw - imo
Both games look awesome. I'm gonna buy both:)
in want white knight cause of how they had the game play sent up
I'll probably be buying both also. I think these screens give WKS the advantage.
I think WKC looks slightly better. I will probably be buying WKC over Last Remnant. SO many games coming out soon, I won't be able to buy all of them. :(
If these arent final screen shots why compare them? Slow news day?
can't wait for both
I have to agree with Dave. Besides their art styles are so different, you really can't compare the two. It would be like comparing viewtiful joe with ninja gaiden sigma. White Knight is definitely more stylized and more colorful; whereas, Remnant is darker and going for a "realistic" look.
psn id: gingo.... the last remnant looks better because its more realistic but white knight story is going for a more cartoony feel and that works well aswell
They both look great but WKS looks better.
WKS looks betta all the way
Just waitng on Wardevil. That's all.
I'm more a WKS person myself, though I suspect I'll get both.
Both look good but White Knight story's more SOLID graphically.
Can't wait to get both
sorry if i havent researched enough but is there anyone of these an MMORPG? lol
been playing shooters for ages anf getting me clan going rank 3. in EU on RSV .....so really dont got the time ti do all research but miss a good mmorpg like EQOA
The Unreal Engine 3 is cheating in graphics. It's something I've noticed with games using UE3, I don't know if any of you guys have. The UE3 has jagged edges like crazy. Anti-aliasing doesn't even cover them well enough, they also use "Bloom" blur or "Bloom" effect. Notice on the last screenshot, the edges of the characters faces, hair and clothing. Doesn't White Knight Chronicles look much smoother? It's a proprietary engine, isn't it? Last Remnant just like it has crazy jaggies.
Granted these are screenshots, and when in motion you'll hardly even notice these issues. But I just wanted to point out a gripe I've always had with UE3. Cheating by blurring the edges. In any case, I've seen some HD trailers of both, and both look brilliant, graphics-wise. Although I'm leaning more toward White Knight Story for something new.
They both look good, just different rendering styles, and lighting treatment.
A very good comparison PSU.
After spending the afternoon playing PS2 at a mates house, the above both look brill to me.
Both visuals are fair.. and i honestly think last remnant battle visuals may be more immersive. But also white knight story isnt fully done yet and they could add more elements to their battle system. like people in the background fighting and having reaction sorta like whats in last remnant.
they look like they are using the same engine
>> Notice on the last screenshot, the edges of the characters faces, hair and clothing.
This is because in TLR, the hair/clothes don't use alpha-channel. Without alpha-channel, everything looks solid like rock. In WKS, the characters' hair and clothes use alpha-transparency, which lets the artist simulate natural antialiasing of thousands of hairs, saving the drawing of hundreds of thousands of polygons for just 1 object and huge antialiasing. Obviously it's like looking at a FMV versus real-time-rendered scene. But this alpha-channel requires that these hair/clothes polygons have to be all sorted before drawn (first draw the ones further). Sorting of polygons can take-up a lot of cpu. I.e drawing 10 times more such polygons means up to 100 times more cpu used. Fortunately there are tricks to speed it up :).
Anyway, I'll probably first get WKS and then TLR.
>> (assuming Final Fantasy XIII isn't due out within the next year).
FFXIII is coming Q1 2008 in EU, according to latest official data. Hopefully it isn't pushed-back anymore. 13-Versus is a whole year afterwards, though.
White Knight Story have this hands down
Actually imo, both of them look like cr@p,but Last Remnant looks better.
I am getting both so it doesn't really matter to me....
The Last Remnant definatly looks much better in these comparisons. Not only graphically, but it looks like the gameplay/fighting system, will be much more enjoyable.
lastremant looks more inmersive
WKS looks sharper but i think the animation in LR is better
There both PS3 games so what does it matter lol
Last Remnant seems t ohave slightly better graphics, but WKS seems to be a better game to me. I'll be getting it, you can count on that!
