Yamauchi hints at enhanced visuals in GT5

Posted on April 4th, 2008 at 11:28 EDT

Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of Polyphony Digital’s multi million selling Gran Turismo series, has hinted that the upcoming fifth instalment in the franchise may contain several visual enhancements over its predecessor, GT5 Prologue.

Speaking to videogamer.com, Yamauchi commented, “In terms of quality we've been able to establish a benchmark in this version, but I think with GT5 there will be additional refinements, perhaps to the lighting and maybe the weather... weather effects."

He also said that the gap between real-time computer graphics and non-real time computer graphics is something that he feels the team will strive to overcome at some point, adding, "Real-time computer graphics are about 10 years behind non-real-time computer graphics like you see in movies.”

"I think that gap is what we'll be trying to fill in the years to come."

Recently, Yamauchi also confirmed that car damage is to be implemented in GT5 Prologue by way of a downloadable update, possibly as soon as fall 2008.

Stay tuned.

This game is currently impressive. I have no idea how it could get better, but realistic weather FX is good. Massive car damage would be cool too.

Simply incredible. This is the kind of attitude and approach developers need this generation. Great work Yamauchi.

@Emo-Mercenary, I'm sure their talents aren't limited to just racers. Something un-realistic would be an interesting change.

they should make a fighting game wich would pit RR7/THPG/FPS fanboys vs. Those Who Don't Race in GT circuits In Real life ("T.W.D.R.GT.I.R.L."). I mean, how great would it be to be able to put the "Throw Down" on those who are sick of the "over-sim" games? (and their ferraris and other $1 mil cars that they must own in real life so as to be sick of it and need a change) I don't know about you but the only race I've ever been in was indoor go-carts, rather fun tho. lol

psn id: gingo.... i think the track surroundings can be increased very slightly on graphics but theres no way the car can get any better they already look as good as real cars

I just still can't believe that the full verison of GT5 is at least another year away.. I was really anticipating a Late 2008 release date. But I guess GT5 Prologue will just have to do for now and I know I'm getting it in April when it comes out in the U.S.

They should work on the environment some more. the cars looke bad-ass, but when I see a 2d grass template just sticking it, it kills the mood. I haven't played GT5P yet. Just based on screenshots.
